Thomas cook for a dominican

I was told that a dominican cannot fly on any uk charter flight if coming to visit the uk and that it would have to be on a scheduled flight (which there are no direct flights and expensive - typical!)

the other day i was talking to a dominican here who told me that if they purchase the flight in the dominican office (puerto plata office in this case) that they can fly with thomas cook with a return ticket and it is alot cheaper.

I have just rung thomas cook here in england who actually confirmed that this IS the case. (well 99.999% im guessing to cover his back)

so if the flight is purchased in the dominican it is possible for them to fly direct on a charter to england. What the difference is im not sure but its definately good to know.

Not sure about that but adding my 2 cents, DO NOT send money for this ticket until you see a copy of that visitor visa, if you are paying for this trip that is.

I also wanted to add that the Dominican that you talked to in England more than likely came on a PR visa not a visitor visa.

The dominican in england did come here when married, but his wife was telling me that her daughters boyfriend came here just on a visitors visa and this is how the boyfriend travelled here. her daughter and him both flew with thomas cook but the ticket must be purchased from the dominican.

and he is paying for his own flight but not untill we know if he gets the visa. just trying to see what option there are first.

I have heard of a couple of 'arrangements' that have allowed a Dominican to travel via a Charter flight but it is NOT the norm. It is also NOT THE NORM for charter companies (as a whole) to sell vacant seats to ANY nationality wanting to get back to UK - Brits included. It all depends on the charter company ...... at the time of sale!! SOME companies insist the ticket is bought in the UK & therefore has to contain an OUTWARD as well as the INWARD cost of flight (albeit at a reduced rate) so as to work within their 'Insurance' & ABTA agreements - others seem to have found a way round this.

Any suggestions/comments we might make on here could be changed within days as 'Company Policy' changes. I would highly recommend that your Dominican friend contact the Tour/Charter Company here in the DR to get the most up-to-date information & policy details. ~ Grahame.

BA are flying from London Gatwick to Punta Cana from 25th October 2009. It does not seem a problem booking a one way flight from Punta Cana to Gatwick on their website, though it is not cheap (?650).

so... progress on this is yes, no, yes, no, yes, no... thomas cook in puerto plata say no.. my travel in puerto plata say yes and the flight is with thomas cook. a few days later they said no.

so.... im not going to risk even trying to purchase with uk charter. if anyone can advise on which step to take to get the cheapest flight to manchester then please let me know. this is if the visa is granted but we are just trying to find out all costs and best routes to take beforehand.

im not sure which airlines to search, what sort of price we are looking at or what countries dominicans can transit through? any help would be much appreciated

You definately can NOT purchase a return ticket to travel from POP to UK and back to POP with any of the UK charter companies. You can get a stand by ticket (one way) to the UK with First Choice, Thomson etc and then when you want to come back to the DR you have to buy a return ticket in the UK and not use the return flight, which the companies then re-sell to the next poor sod trying to book a flight!

This of course may be why it is tricky for Dominicans because they are effectively traveling on a one way ticket? Others on this site know far more about that side of it but we help people book their UK flights from here all the time!

in february thomson fly had return tickets available to the uk, but was informed that a dominican can not fly on a charter uk flight, the agent in Puerto Plata would not even sell my dominican wife the ticket.

Try Air France website they fly Santo Domingo - Paris CDG then onto Manchester we have done this flight many times.

It is not possible for a Dominican to fly Charterflight. We tried the same thing 3 years ago

as of last year dominicans travelling via EU country need a valid schengen visa.
this applies to both air france flight via paris and iberia via madrid (both from SD).
the ticket is not likely to be less than 1000 dollars (return, to manchester).

can i ask aprox how much you paid for this? i have found a flight to belgium for around 500euros but this is via jamaica on the way out. and im finding it hard to know if he can transit through jamaica without transit visa? they must really not want them to leave everything is so difficult and i cant seem to find much info anywhere :ermm: very frustrating. but i gues more frustrating if they refuse visa. i just thought if i knew where best to get flight etc then 'IF' we get the visa then it saves time after it is granted (and yes i know its a big IF

last december i have called all the charters airline form puj to london and i spent 2 weeks getting different answers and finally it was impossible to get a ticket one way from there.
finally my husband flown from puj with air berlin,via dusseldorf,i precise he did not have a schengen visa but a british one,but because he was married to an europeen he was allowed to fly via germany with all the documents proving the relation!

If the Dominican person has the correct visa it is possible to get a flight out of POP on a UK charter flight, I have seen this done many times. PM me for for more details as I can not post phone numbers without permission.

I realise this will not help the OP but I would like to make people here aware of a current situation. My other half needs to fly home from the UK to the DR, preferably to POP and has approached all the charter companies flying from the UK airports seeking a one way ticket with his DR residencia in hand. He has been told that it is absolutely not possible for someone to fly one way from the DR on any charter flight to the UK but those tickets are sold at approx $585 every day of the week...... who is getting the money? Who is being ripped off? And who is kidding who?

We paid $400 (Dollars) one way from Santo Domingo - Paris then Manchester.

You just need to check there website for availability and cost's. If you can be flexiable with dates you may get the flight cheeper.

We never had any problems with my Wife's Dominican Visa as you do not leave The Paris air terminal before departing to Manchester.

One bit of advice would be to allways book a return flight as customs will want to see that you have a date for Return to the Dominican Republic.

This was my point earlier. They will not sell you a one way from UK to DR and they will not sell you a return from the DR to The UK. So your other half has to buy a return ticket from the UK to the DR knowing that he is only using his outgoing ticket. When he doesn't use the return ticket, it is sold again on a "stand by basis". The ticket is "non transferrable" once he/she has used the outbound part so he/she can't re-sell the unused part him/herself. RIP OFF OR WHAT! The airlines claim it is to do with their charter lisence!
