I had stuffed potatoes for lunch today. We have a Dominican cook that supplies our meals Monday to Friday.
Oh there we go, with mayonaise, you must be Dutch. Friet met mayonaise. We have never bought them, just like avocado’s there are always enough in the backyard. While I love fresh avocado’s I am not a big fan of platanos. I prefer them sliced, fried and with mayonnaise!
Tostones give me heartburn. I fry them for the family but don’t eat them. Mangú sometimes but with butter not that margarine they use.I can eat maybe 2 and my throat starts to close up. Don't like them at all.
Geezer comes past our house in central PP most days, 20 for 100p or 10 for 50p, and they are biiiiig ......19 peso but they are not very big right now
This Price makes no sense at all. For the Farmer it's cheaper to throgh them away. Only Transport cost alone are more than this.Geezer comes past our house in central PP most days, 20 for 100p or 10 for 50p, and they are biiiiig ......
The other day in Bonao it was 3 pesos each on the street, and in LaVega 5 pesos each at the Jarabacoa intersection.....What’s the going price now? Supermarkets? Street markets/trucks?

Here where we are (South West USA) they were $1.49 last time I looked. I am not a big plantain lover but maduros I will eat. Boiled green plantains get a big no from me.Meanwhile, they are ridiculously expensive in NJ. $1 each in some stores. DR should export them here!
5 pesos per unit at the street trucks
19-25 pesos per unit at small supermarkets
35 pesos at more expensive big box markets

I assume all Sirenas and Jumbos are the same in that Sirena sell platano by the pound, whereas Jumbo sells by the unit. Maybe it all comes out about the same when buying, but I know at Jumbo I always look for the largest ones! Anyone try rulo? I sometimes buy them in Jumbo here in POP, not sure if Sirena also has them. About half the size as a platano, they boil up pretty quickly and are a little different in flavor. Usually around 7 or 8 pesos each.
I have eaten Rulo a few times both ripe and raw, plus cooked. I am ambivalent about them. I have a big bunch (cluster) of bananas on several trees that will be ripening in the next several weeks. I usually give half of them away to my MIL and our teachers. Very good organic bananas....mmm delicious.I don’t usually buy fruit or vegetables at Sirena unless I catch the 40% off day, but I’ve always seen platanos priced by unit at their store in San Cristobal

Neither of us like rulos
