It all comes down to DR1 wisdom point #1: You don't know here until you've lived here. What you think will work from NA usually doesn't work out the way one envisions.
If the electricity setup doesn't give you a shock, your first bill will. As pointed out, there is a reason why most stove/ovens here are propane powered. One doesn't appreciate this fact until you live through a month, of frozen dinners, lasagnas, chickens roasted in an electric oven.
Electric water heaters another big problem here. Most are repaired with 110V heating elements because they are cheaper. By installing a 220V element, the amount of time needed to heat a given volume of water is reduced by 75% resulting in faster recovery and less actual operating time. But that's logical so there is a rule against any repair person suggesting it.
