Exchange Rate December 29th (morning), Banco Santa Cruz:
for 1 US-Dollar you receive 34,00 Pesos;
for 1 Euro you receive 39,50 Pesos.

Possible reason: The Worldbank do not pay USD 150 milions this year, because the payments (subsidies) of the government to the electricity sector are higher than in 2004. IMF and Worldbank want to stop the subsidies.

It generally doesn't pay to convert CD to pesos in the DR. They give you about 10-15 less than they should give you. Assuming you can get a proper exchange rate in Canada, it's best to convert CD to US in Canada and bring US to the DR.

Probably 1-2 for US-RD conversion, 4-6 for CD-RD.

Now I understand why a lot of people suggest changing Canadian dollars to USD before coming to the DR. Lucky me, I bring USD and fly out of one of the cheaper airports, EWR, to get to the DR.
