You are a mistaken in facts. In Jan of 1985, the exchange rate was over 3 to 1. I started visiting in 1981 and received 3 to 1 at that time. It reached it's worse under Hippolito in 2004 when I remember getting 56 to 1 on the street. See the Central Bank website for facts: http://www.bancentral.gov.do/tasas_cambio/TMI4005_BC_1985_2010.pdfNotice: Until January 23, 1985 the exchange rate was RD$ 1.00 = US$ 1.00
How things have changed? That's from the DR Central Bank. If someone here could find a year by year rate since 1948 till present, I'd appreciate it. I haven't been able to find it.
It will definitely hit 40 sooner or later. At that point, 1 peso will = 2.5 u.s. cents.
