You are a mistaken in facts. In Jan of 1985, the exchange rate was over 3 to 1. I started visiting in 1981 and received 3 to 1 at that time. You're too quick and you're not looking. Look at the bottom of that page. I placed word for word what is there. These are official stats. Whatever you got back then was not from the Central Bank. All the charts I have produced are from official CB stats. I've placed their data into an EXCEL spreadsheet. Next time, look more closely.

why do the online rates show as of yesterday
1 US dollar = 12.36 pesos
1 CAN dollar = 12.28 pesos
but on here describing LOCAL exchanage it's much higher?

37.45 USD at western union in Santiago ... The USD is slowly getting better vs the pesos..
CAD for some reason, if worth less in DR but not t the more to the rest of the world.. I convert my Canadian to USD the to Pesos. Last time I got more that way.
Dont be afraid to ask when union for a better rate. On $5000 the will probably give you 37.6 or close to that.

at the Banca Barrican in El Cortecito/Bavaro/PC.
but I also exchanged only 1KUS Today.
I hope that "climbing" exchange Rate get's slowed down soon,
effects on the average Labourer are horrible,
'cause Wages do by far not rise accordingly to the "Inflation".
