I have bought motos here before they're simple verify the ownership and serials hand over the cash, good to go.

I want to buy a car here from a dealership (i'm not new to Dominican resident wise) but I have not bought an actual vehicle here

From my understanding any sale here essentially you need to verify the ownership and the dueno and that's where my knowledge ends.

From what I hear Dominicans recommend getting a lawyer for any payment schedule etc even if it's from the dealership I mean; I understand the trust issues but is it really that necessary to get a lawyer involved? I guess the risk is here you pay i.e 250,000 DOP for the initial and they say you stole it and there is no record of transaction and it comes back to the lott.

it's just one more person that will try to rip you off 10,000 pesos for signing a document.
Feel free to jott down your experience and any recommendations, thanks.

I bought a car a few years back from a dealer. The dealer took care of everything, gave me a sale contract stamp paid after we went to the bank with him and I transfer the $. He gave me a temporary "matricula" ( registration -paper plate) and after about 2 months had my licenses plate and matricula in my name. He also arrange for the insurance before driving away from the lot.

I paid the car in full no credit. You more than likely not get the "matricula" (registration) in your name until the car is fully paid.

note: make sure all documents are perfect and correct ( like spelling your name....ect), this is for everything concerning government documents.

Thanks good info there, so you didn't deal with a lawyer directly. The dealership took the responsibility and arranged the proper paperwork. Also cause you mentioned insurance from my understanding ( maybe you're resident ?) If you don't have a cedula the insurance is for nothing if something does happen since non-cedela holders are voided when an issues arises even if you are paying insurance on the vehicle ?

Yes Dealer took care of all paper work, no lawyer needed.

I am a resident. Whether you are or not you will still need basic insurance to drive the car. If they pay in serious claims is a gray zone.
Basic insurance here (Seguro de Ley) offers little protection ( I think around 50000 pesos liability) but is mandatory.

If you buy on credit I think dealer will request full insurance and you will not be the owner until fully paid.
Be careful here car dealers are know to make a piece of junk look really good. (most common like turn back mileage and many more things that inexperience buyer can not recognize)

When you buy on credit there is a GPS in the car. No pay, car disappears fast...................

All dealer handled.
They offered a 3-4 month payment..... 30-30% down, balance in 3 equal payments, no interest....I took it

I got my own insurance

You buy more cars than anyone on this forum. In the last 4 years you have had 2 Isuzu MUX SUVs, a Nissan X-Trail, A Suzuki Vitara. What else ?
My shampoo lasts longer than your car ownership

Is this confirmed? Have you found one or have they just told you straight up there is a tracking system until your debt is paid? I can understand since it's the DR. But to be tracked in the DR is dangerous for many reasons.

If the car is from the US, I recommend you get a CARFAX check on it before buying. Then you will have some idea if what if anything was previously damaged or tampered with. Some diagnostic devices can also spot tampering of things like digital odometers, I am told, but cannot confirm this. Before I buy a used car, I have it checked with a high end OBD device to see what is wrong with it.

I have only dealt with 2 dealers

Ochoa and NdeC
Both excellent service and trades

I usually have the car concierge do the snooping
I find them, he sniffs them

Buying a new car is a bit of a nuisance in this country.... GPS aside.

To maintain the warranty, 5,000km oil changes are req'd.... but wait
Must be done at a certified center.... not your local guy.... no appt - go line up

In my case, the closest is over 2 hrs away.... in the big cities, not such a problem

Something to keep in mind............
