"Nightly rates at the Alt Hotel Toronto Airport and the Sheraton Gateway Hotel at Toronto Pearson International Airport, two of the hotels currently participating in the government quarantine program, start at $339 and $319, respectively, for a single person, employees at those hotels say.

Those rates include all costs associated with the quarantine, including food and security, the employees say."

So $1,150 including HST for one person, three nights.
Sheraton Gateway has the Prime Minister Suite, Regular rate is $559/night plus meals, itc.. Maybe that's what Trudeau based his $2K estimate on?

Employees said the three-night COVID package at the Alt Hotel Toronto Airport is $1,017; at the Calgary Airport Marriott In-Terminal Hotel it is $1,272. At several other hotels, staff declined to provide the cost, one saying they were specifically told to “keep the price quiet” and direct callers to the government-issued phone line.

Global news reported that out of the 11 approved hotels at the 4 Canadian airports accepting international travellers, the average nightly cost per room is $450 CDN for 2 people. That includes the room, food, security, transportation and cleaning.

Still a ripoff but not as bad as predicted by the Trudeau. Shop around as the 450 is the average so there is better prices out there

Canadians and spouses who want to return face a myriad of problems.

No flights till the May 1st according to gc.ca regulations.
The only direct flights will be to YYZ or YUL.
Arrivals will face mandatory 3 day hotel quarantine at port of arrival and covid testing.
If covid test is negative a continued flight to final destination will be allowed,
If confirmation of a suitable place for the final destination quarantine is given.
Another COVID-19 test toward the end of your quarantine.

Federal quarantine applies for travellers entering Canada. If you can enter Canada and you have no symptoms, you must quarantine for a minimum of 14 days.

Travellers flying – this includes a mandatory 3 night pre-paid booking at a government-authorized hotel at your own cost.

Travellers driving – may proceed directly to your suitable place of quarantine.

You are not excluded from quarantine, even if you have:

  • tested negative for COVID-19
  • been vaccinated for COVID-19
  • recovered from COVID-19
Towards the end of your quarantine, you will be required to take another COVID-19 test. You will be required to stay in your place of quarantine until you receive a negative test result.

Where can you quarantine
You'll need to confirm you have a suitable place to quarantine where you:

  • stay for 14 days or possibly longer
  • have access to the necessities of life, including water, food, medication and heat without leaving quarantine
  • can avoid contact with others who did not travel with you
  • have no guests
You cannot quarantine in a place where you will have contact with people who:

  • are 65 years or older
  • have underlying medical conditions
  • have compromised immune systems
  • work or assist in a facility, home or workplace that includes at-risk populations, including:
    • Nurses, doctors, other healthcare professionals, personal support workers, social workers
    • First responders, such as paramedics
    • Cleaning and maintenance staff, receptionists and administrative staff, food services staff, volunteers, essential visitors to those living in long-term care facilities
You may only quarantine with people in these situations if:

  • they consent to the quarantine or are the parent or minor in a parent-minor relationship
  • you complete a form with a government representative at the port of entry explaining the consent and receive authorization to proceed
In these limited circumstances, a government representative will confirm consent.

Many travellers will be able to quarantine at home or at their Canadian destination.

Some travellers may be unable to quarantine at home or their final destination. In these cases, travellers are expected to make alternative arrangements for their return to Canada. Although alternative accommodations (e.g. with family or friends, or paid accommodation) may be suitable, the Government of Canada does not reimburse for expenses incurred for accommodations, including hotels, RV rentals and trailer park or campground fees.

You cannot quarantine in group living environments

Those who need to travel can consider themselves to be lucky, if they are US citizens.

Fun fact. Since the pandemic started, there were 10,000,000 land crossings, most of which had no quarantine requirements.

Canada is great restricting air travel for Canadians.
The thing they are not great at, is procuring vaccines for just 38 million.
Maybe the DR will beat them? :cautious:

I've "got no dog in this fight" but I hate to see inaccurate information posted that a simple search, that took me mere seconds, could have avoided ;)

They appear to be well ahead of an aggressive schedule compared to most of the World.

Have a look at the official data.
Canada's performance is sub standard up to now.
Age 65 to 69 may hope for May / June vaccinations in BC, if they can adhere to the plan.
Currently only about 1.5 million have been vaccinated, which translates to 4.61 Doses per 100 people.
Compare this to other Nations.

The EU has similar problems even though they subsidized covid vaccine research and have laboratories in the EU.

My guess is by May/June there will be a glut of vaccines in the EU and US due to more vaccines getting approved, as well as a lack of willingness of a certain amount of the population to get vaccinated. Wouldn't be surprised is some politician comes up with the bright idea of bribing volunteers.

Israel has been exceptional and of course is essentially a dictatorship, or whatever on needs to call it, and has developed their own vaccine which are key.

Canada promised to deliver a certain results along a timeline and even after major unexpected delays from vaccine manufacturers, which created unforeseen hurdles, they are on or ahead of schedule again. Similarly for the EU.

Lo siento mucho if that does not jibe with your agenda but those facts as noted in the links I posted.

Many lessons have been learned, by many countries, throughout this process and with some luck and good management we'll all have less issues for future pandemics. Let's revisit July 1/21 and see.

I expect tha 10M is lower than normal for cross border travel.
After all, Cdns cannot enter the USA these days.......no more day trips for gas etc along the border towns

And it only took one case of CV19 to get the world where it is today. Hmmm.

Looking at the facts on injections above, Canada does seem to be a bit slow.
