Hi Gina, I actually had an email back from them late on friday basically saying they are very sorry about the run around ive had and i must be assured that First Choice care about my wedding and the holiday and that they will help in any way they can BLAH BLAH BLAH. she did give me her personal email address and said she personally will answer all my enquiries. she still couldnt answer about the gazebo though, just came out wi the usual stuff that thats what it was when the prochures were going to press, basically blaming the hotel. im emailing her back today so will let you know how i go on. Had a bit of luck at wkend though as Michaels dad has said he will pay for the paperwork doing as a wedding present which is brill as its costing ?817. speak soon.

PLEASE, I wilkl say this just ONE MORE TIME - talk to the British Consul in Puerto Plata as to your exact needs for translations necessary. Various documents mentioned by Tour Companies & the Dominican Embassy in the UK ARE NOT NEEDED IN PUERTO PLATA region - you should talk to Mendez as suggested sometime ago on this thread!!

Hell, even if I am wrong (which on this occasion I am not) it can't do you any harm to check/confirm with him & it should save you almost the cost of the flight here!!

I am now out of here if people will not listen to sound advice! ~ Grahame.

Hi Grahame, We are not ignoring your advice i assure you, i did in fact contact your friend mendez and he replyed. It is actually First Choice who are saying you have to have the certain documents and that they will not marry you without them. Im actually sending my paperwork to the Spanish Translation bureau as it will save so much work and is slighty cheaper than sending it direct to the embassy. I really appreciated your advice Grahame its just unfortunate we have to do it another way. Please dont stay off the forum as you have helped us all out with other things. chris xx

It was just this thread that I was going to give a miss in the future Chris, not the whole forum!! I have been around far too long to give a small item like this the chance of leaving DR1 completely.

PLEASE, when you get a moment, send me an e-mail detailing ALL the documents First Choice say that you need to get married here. I can then print it out, take to the Consular office here to verify everything & armed with his comments, take it up with the First Choice Area Manager in Puerto Plata. You are obviously being given incorrect information (according to responses I have at this time) & although it might not help you with a cheaper price, it will hopefully assist others in the future by ensuring First Choice have the correct information! If I get it RIGHT, you might decide to ask First Choice for a refund later :cheeky: - or a credit note to next years holiday!:bunny::bunny::bunny:!

Give me a call when you are across here - you can e-mail/PM me from the hotel or get my Tel. No. - it is in the Telephone book. ~ Grahame.

Changed Location :)

Hi All, Sorry havent been on in a while but with all the bad reports coming from HVGB again we have decided to move hotels... Didnt think it would be easy but it was, the staff in First Choice Cardiff were fantastic.. We even had a refund of over ?500.00 and with only 3 weeks til we leave... I hadnt let the reports bother me before as I thought it was teething problems but with the latest influx I couldnt stand it any longer, its supposed to be my dream wedding and a gazebo in the line of fire of a golf course is not my idea of heaven... I had to laugh as the brochure for next year still states that you can have beachfront or gazebo!!! We are now in the Riu Merengue, the Wedding package was slightly more expensive ?899 but it comes with lots more extras... Well I hope you all have a fantastic time and its everything you dreamed of... Will let you know how I get on!!!!!!

Hi Grahame im back. THis is what First Choice are asking for:

1) A Single Status Declaration - is required by both persons. this must state that you are single/divorced/widowed and free to marry. they must be signed and stamped by a solicitor. it must include your full adress, passport number, nationality, religion and your occupation.

2) A Full Birth Certificate - this must include your parents details on.

3) A Decree Absolute - If Divorced

The above are what i have been told they require as my partner has been married before so in total there is 5 documents needed.

I hope this is of help, if you need any more information you can email me anytime: clowe@heckmondwike-fb.co.uk

Thanks for all your help Grahame

Yes your documents can't be done any sooner than 12 weeks before your return date. We found it very easy we took our documents down to the foreigh and commonwealth office, be aware though you can be there for hours, we then got the tube and dropped the rest off to the dominican embassy. We used translate.com to do our translations (they are actually approved by the dominican embassy) and we had them back in about 10 days all in all we had everything back within 2 weeks.

Also you have to pay the dominican embassy by postal order or bankers check we didn't realise until i was reading it in the foreign and commonwealth office and then spent an hour looking for a barclays bank.

In total it cost about ?530 plus travelling to london. Hope that helps

That seems an eminently reasonable list Chris. I'll check the cost of translating above into Spanish, getting it notorised to meet First Choice AND the judge's acceptance & the get back to you by PM. IF it works out to your satisfaction - you can post the information on this thread for others to take advantage of in the future. Should have an answer within 48 hours - just a matter of finding the man in his office & prepared to answer the phone!! :cheeky::eek:gre: ~ Grahame.

I'm seriously thinking of changing to the Gran Ventana for our wedding next year. Has anyone heard of any wedding reviews from there. With all the bad reports which are still coming from HVGB I'm really starting to stress about it.

I have spoken (this morning) to the British Consul here in Puerto Plata & will be PM'ing both you & shelobern (copy for ginam with your permission?) a little later today. Give me another 4 hours & you should have that PM! Got to go visit the finance house & draw my O.A.P. from my investments first!! :cheeky::pirate: Need a few bob for the weekend frivolities!! ;) ~ Grahame.
