not sure where in Sosua you guys hang up but it seems a world away from the playa...either the dominicans from your part of the world have different habits or the dominicans from playa sosua have to catch up.
white = gringo ( no matter where from )
black american = negro ( they will not call you that when you are close by )
haitian = perro
Pollos Gringos. They are white. Not black, or sometimes other colors. Why didn't they get named something else if gringo DOESN'T mean white in the DR?
The truth also lies in the "gringo mandingo". Go to google. Do an image search of "gringo dominican republic". Look on page 3.
Yeah...kinda scary. :devious:
only been in the past few years that blacks have been fianancially able to afford trips to other countries. this can be backed up by the number of passports issued to US blacks as compared to other colors and countries.

Well, I consider myself pretty well-integrated, if I may say soI agree with you. For those others who insist that gringo is a blanket term for ALL foreigners (which it isn't) just shows the lack of Dominican society observation or integration you have had.
Pollos/huevos gringos are intensively farmed, while criollos are farmyard chickens and eggs. I've always understood that to be the distinction rather than the colour.Pollos Gringos. They are white. Well, I consider myself pretty well-integrated, if I may say so, and no, gringo is not about a skin color, it's about being obviously-foreign (excluding Haitians, or anyone from a Spanish-speaking country). It also denotes a belief that the person in question has financial means.
