First of all, not everyone has expressed the need for drastic change.ers.

I doubt they have, people moved to Sosua for certain reasons, take those reasons away and those who don't want change may have to relocate. Selling up right now might not be so fruitful as people may have once thought and so some stand to lose out. Are those the important people? No, so I expect your new powers that be may go ahead a try whatever they feel is needed to regenerate the town.
I was under the impression most people felt the same way and understood a similar reality, looks like I have been off the Mark on this one.

you are off the mark on most things , but at least you have an opinion

:pirate:As opposed to who, you, lurking in the background squawking away to yourself all day, very little opinion on anything other than those conversations you seem to have with yourself from time to time, and no where remarks like this?
Lol, I'd rather be a little off the Mark and actually have something to say thanks.:cheeky:

I say, change sosua so the family people can go there and enjoy the nice beach and be able to spend the night in the city. All of you whore mongers can go to thailand or some other depressed city in south america to get your rocks off. We want sosua beach back. The pedophiles and other stray dogs/misfits from all over the world can kiss a haitian hooker's ass somewhere else. Sosua needs to change and we want our beach back. I say build walls, chase the hookers out and shut down the brothels. This will certainly push 90% of sosua lovers to never come back.
I am all for the change and patiently waiting for the day when my family, my sisters and my niece and nephews can walk the streets of sosua without looking at these filthy misfits indulging in pleasures of the flesh (openly).

100% agree!! I also want to see it without stupid tourists too. Kept for ourselves only. I am sure the prices will go down dramatically. Now because of the tourists the prices are way too high. The idea of cleanning Sosua from girls and tourists is great! Sex tourists will stop coming because there is no more chicas. And family tourists won`t go to Sosua because of a very high crime, garbage, police corruption and drugs.

Mr Silverfox and I chose Sosua for all of its charms, good and bad. We do our piece to be charitable, ignore the hookers (my husband gets hit on ALL the time), try to be good citizens and not *iss anyone off. Nothing is ever perfect doesn't matter where you are. I'm not being complacent but if people don't want change in their lives, they will not change no matter what. I don't believe that Dominicans are stupid people - they are actually quite intellegant that they can manipulate the sex tourists as well as they do. So who is really in the wrong/right here? In any event, we're not leaving any time soon and as Mr Silverfox says....I'm gonna leave here in a small brown box that you can divide between yourself and my other ex-wifes...LOL

Get rid of the tourists and the ex-pats. All they have ever done is to corrupt the Dominican people.

End all the remittances sent to RD as well, this will force the Dominican people to build a developed economy.

Just to comment on the Op post - the Wall is just silly, and as one other poster said "if its even true". You don't mess with someones ability to do business, if the business owner wants to wall off the view, then they can do that. But hands off otherwise.

Here's how silly it is...would that apply to the Waterfront Resturant? Wall it in?

To keep it simple....

Basically 3 types bring money to Sosua:
Retirees - buy homes, live part time or full time
Familys to spend vacation dinero
Gentlemen (25 to 65 y.o.) who enjoy Pedro Clisante after dark

Now what 2 from the above groups do you think they (Mayor, the condo developers, "most" business owners, the home builders, the family type hotel owners) want to see more of?

They are going to gently persuade the chicas to not roll in on Caribe & Metro busses every Friday afternoon. And the young (and old) studs will start to drift elsewhere. Not really that hard of a task.

If the Mayor is consistent in her efforts, she will probably be successful.

i think you are wrong.

i think if you conducted a poll.... "MOST" business owners, prefer the gentlemen. why? because there are so many of them. THEY spend far more in sosua, daily, than the other two do.

the majority of the hotels in sosua - single men. majority of the bars - single men. majority of the restaurants - single men.

now, im not denying that given enough time and cleansing, that its POSSIBLE to get more families back and spending money, but the interim, imo will hurt too many business.

there is no reason sosua cant have it all.

i make no secrets about why i USUALLY come to sosua. im a single guy. i enjoy the company of my dominican and haitian female friends. for those childish posters among us, who like to refer to us as slimey disgusting creatures...whatever... we aren't breaking any laws, and we arent doing anything that dominican men dont do also. when prositution becomes illegal, then you can bitch about it. until then, quit whining about people commiting a perfectly legal act, that brings money into the city.

now, that said..... i also have a daughter. and i just had her in sosua two weeks ago for her 15th birthday. this was her third trip down. her first, we stayed primarily in playa cofresi, and our second we stayed primarily in cabarete. but on each of those trips, we went to sosua a number of days to enjoy the beach there.

as a parent, i will say this..

on the past trips, i would not have wanted my daughter in sosua during the nighttime. daytime was ok on the beach, and was sort of ok walking about town and shopping.

now, between her second and third trip, i've been down 4 times by myself, for obvious reasons. and on those trips, i of course, had no complaints about the day or night actitivities around town and particularly on pedro clisante.

but, when we were down two weeks ago.. i was completely satisfied with the changes the mayor has been making. imo, the daytime on the beach was slightly more pleasant. the streets during the daytime were pleasant.

and while i was slightly annoyed because i was actually SEARCHING for a shoeshine boy, it was nice to not have one bugging me every 30 seconds. it actually took me until my 2nd evening before i finally spotted one to shine my shoes.

i did not have a single street kid beg me for money... because i didnt see any. i'm sure they are still around, but they were not as noticeable as they were even just back in july.

and the chicas were not out in full force until about 10:30 or 11:00 at night. daytime, only showed signs of a handful of girls wandering around, shopping, going to the salon etc... and then in the evening, as the families started to retreat, then the chicas started coming out.

as a parent, i really liked this compromise or schedule, whatever you want to call it. neither my daughter nor myself felt uncomfortable due to chicas or street kids.

and when it was time for my daughter to go to bed..... then the streets opened up.

sosua CAN have both.

also, one thing i'd like to note... someone said, if you send the hookers away, then the single male tourist will go away as well. i disagree. while there no doubt would be some that would leave, just as what happened with boca chica... i think some of you holier than thou folks might be suprised at how many sex tourists come to sosua because of the environment, the beach, the food, the small beach town feel, etc.. BEFORE considering the chicas.

i come first and foremost because of friends and the beach. chicas are secondary. i can go to thailand, or medellin, or hell, even santiago, la vega, puerto plata, santo domingo, etc,... if it were JUST about the chicas.

sosua does not have a monopoly on the sex, neither in the world or the country.

What I found most interesting is that a representative from the Air Force was at the meeting to discuss Sosua's problems....does this mean a precision air strike is being considered as a solution?? I heard the new Tucan Fighter Jets were just delivered... :ninja:

Airforce has more power than the police.

I don't claim to know the stats of who spends more, but I can bet that's not what the Mayor and her group is looking - "Who spends the most money?"

now, im not denying that given enough time and cleansing, that its POSSIBLE to get more families back and spending money, but the interim, imo will hurt too many business..

But I think that's the whole point - it is possible and it is what they want to accomplish. During the transition, yes, some businesses will suffer. But if they're smart, they'll adapt.

IMO, They want to develop a market for half-mil usd condos, 250 usd a night hotel rooms and $50 usd meals. One could argue if that's do-able or not, but...

there is no reason sosua cant have it all.
sosua CAN have both. .

Maybe, but it's not the goal. I think if they push it into the shadows, that might suffice for them. After all, there will always be Cabanas, Passions, etc.

Those girls you mentioned is not the problem, they just come to Sosua to have fun an earn some money at the discos at night during the weekend. They bother nobody.
The problem must be the ugly Haitianas (for the most) who hangs out on the sidewalk, grabbing and harassing the people who walks bye.

Sosua similar to Las Vegas?

I've never been to Sosua or Las Vegas but I'm using them as a comparison.... Both are adult entertainment tourism destinations but in recent times, Las Vegas aka sin city has been attracting more family oriented travellers, by adding entertainment that caters to families....it still has all it's casinos, strip clubs and brothels but now has more to offer than just that....Perhaps Sosua can develop more family oriented tourism while still catering to the adults and there can be a healthier mixture of the two?

You took the words right out of my mouth. Las Vegas was once seen as a very dangerous place, due to all the violence committed by the mobster there. Now Las Vegas is a family oriented place, sure this change didn?t come over night, but someone took the time and effort to make a change. Why can?t this happen in Sosua as well.

Ive visted las vegas and didnt see that many families the only place I saw a lot of children was the circus themed place, which we got out of pretty quick - a lot of people giving out flyers for strip joints, which is basically the same as women coming up to you directly
