i think you are wrong.
i think if you conducted a poll.... "MOST" business owners, prefer the gentlemen. why? because there are so many of them. THEY spend far more in sosua, daily, than the other two do.
the majority of the hotels in sosua - single men. majority of the bars - single men. majority of the restaurants - single men.
now, im not denying that given enough time and cleansing, that its POSSIBLE to get more families back and spending money, but the interim, imo will hurt too many business.
there is no reason sosua cant have it all.
i make no secrets about why i USUALLY come to sosua. im a single guy. i enjoy the company of my dominican and haitian female friends. for those childish posters among us, who like to refer to us as slimey disgusting creatures...whatever... we aren't breaking any laws, and we arent doing anything that dominican men dont do also. when prositution becomes illegal, then you can bitch about it. until then, quit whining about people commiting a perfectly legal act, that brings money into the city.
now, that said..... i also have a daughter. and i just had her in sosua two weeks ago for her 15th birthday. this was her third trip down. her first, we stayed primarily in playa cofresi, and our second we stayed primarily in cabarete. but on each of those trips, we went to sosua a number of days to enjoy the beach there.
as a parent, i will say this..
on the past trips, i would not have wanted my daughter in sosua during the nighttime. daytime was ok on the beach, and was sort of ok walking about town and shopping.
now, between her second and third trip, i've been down 4 times by myself, for obvious reasons. and on those trips, i of course, had no complaints about the day or night actitivities around town and particularly on pedro clisante.
but, when we were down two weeks ago.. i was completely satisfied with the changes the mayor has been making. imo, the daytime on the beach was slightly more pleasant. the streets during the daytime were pleasant.
and while i was slightly annoyed because i was actually SEARCHING for a shoeshine boy, it was nice to not have one bugging me every 30 seconds. it actually took me until my 2nd evening before i finally spotted one to shine my shoes.
i did not have a single street kid beg me for money... because i didnt see any. i'm sure they are still around, but they were not as noticeable as they were even just back in july.
and the chicas were not out in full force until about 10:30 or 11:00 at night. daytime, only showed signs of a handful of girls wandering around, shopping, going to the salon etc... and then in the evening, as the families started to retreat, then the chicas started coming out.
as a parent, i really liked this compromise or schedule, whatever you want to call it. neither my daughter nor myself felt uncomfortable due to chicas or street kids.
and when it was time for my daughter to go to bed..... then the streets opened up.
sosua CAN have both.
also, one thing i'd like to note... someone said, if you send the hookers away, then the single male tourist will go away as well. i disagree. while there no doubt would be some that would leave, just as what happened with boca chica... i think some of you holier than thou folks might be suprised at how many sex tourists come to sosua because of the environment, the beach, the food, the small beach town feel, etc.. BEFORE considering the chicas.
i come first and foremost because of friends and the beach. chicas are secondary. i can go to thailand, or medellin, or hell, even santiago, la vega, puerto plata, santo domingo, etc,... if it were JUST about the chicas.
sosua does not have a monopoly on the sex, neither in the world or the country.
