Peak has now been targeted as April 15th.
I suspect it will peak later in DR, maybe 3-4 weeks past.

If US peak is supposed to be on April 15, then DR had reached its peak, with its shutdown, compared to USA with basically everything open,a ircraft flying, trains and busses running, malls open etc.

If DR is to have peak in 3-4 weeks, USA will have peak in 2 months.

On top of all that, any business that targets disposable income---like mine---will have an especially challenging time re-booting.

A businessman that clearly understands trickle down.

Revised. 6 months from today. Maybe. Hurricane season may change things. Second wave might too.

The president. Green bottle. Know one can tell at this time so... best ...never mind.

Really, look at other world stats.

Even if they are allowed to, it's going to take some time for the airlines can ramp up. For starters, there's the maintenance. You can't just turn on a plane after it's been sitting. There there's the financial aspects. Airlines, most of them in dire financial positions, are only going to open the routes that are the most profitable to build cash flow. That assumes there are going to be tourists with the money and desire to travel (think job losses and fear of catching it again) ... not trying to be negative, but realistically it's going to take time. Lesser routes like Samana and Puerto Plata will likely take longer than Punta Cana.

The DR flights were all full even when all other routes failed due to govt shutdowns, the flights to SDQ and STI were all full for jetblue, So once DR opens up im positive jetblue will redirect AC there asap

Dont let that get to you. I have two posters who dislike just about all my posts. Big is cool for the most part.

Thanks Alex, I appreciate the guidance. I've read many, many posts but I normally don't even bother to log on, and as soon as I do I get pounced on. It's amusing since they know nothing about me. The last thing I'm interested in is getting into an internet beef with people that mean nothing to me and that I'd never normally meet. Now with "the plague" going around none of us can even travel internationally so it's a wrap.

Aint no way DR will stay shut down the way it is for much longer than mid to end of May. They will kill more people than any virus by completely tanking their economy.

They will want to open may/june. If they can.

There eventually will be a trade off made of lives versus the economy. Today there is another vote in DR congress on the extension of emergency powers for the president. I doubt it will be unanimous. Keep in mind the time period for emergency power is not the same as the quarantine time. Quarantine time is decided separately. Check the news later today for any updates.

I am surprised there are still tourists stranded.

Maybe they where initially staying riding out the storm but now they are “stranded”. That will most likely continue the next months. Maybe I will be one of them lol. I am resident here though and at least have local health insurance which is ones responsibility to have. I have to stay though and take care of my business and have everything in order. But when its possible to travel again I think I will need a break and go back to Denmark for a visit.

Anybody who wants to fly to DR would also have to consider if they would really want to under the new circumstances the country is under. And they would need to look at what their own country permits/recommends. If there are ferry flights now to the US will the US then permit their citizens traveling here with the risk of having to come and save them again.

As I have been told by a pilot, those ferry flights will be the last out of the DR, absent extraordinary circumstances.

On the flip side, the DR is arranging, or perhaps trying to arrange, to get some of its citizens who are stuck in the US....back to the DR.

In the, I am not sure who wins department, flights of Dominicans being deported from the US after having served their jail sentences.........are on hold.

Finally, as to when the airlines might begin again to fly to the DR..........AA has just announced no change or cancellation fees for those buying or already holding tickets through September 30. United has gone further, they are extending the same policy through the end of 2020. Read into it what you will.
