United has been really ****ty so far through all this. I flew down out of EWR to POP on March 1, I was to fly home on April 1. When they announced the lockdown I went on the United site around March 18th. They had no flights out I called waited n eww early 2 hours & was told they were starting to fly out on the 25th that my flight would be fine on 4/1. The next day I checked they had canceled my flight with no notification. I called JetBlue booked a flight and flew out on Saturday the 21st. JetBlue had reasonable pricees and customer service. We got diverted to Orlando because JFK had issues. On Sunday I got an email apology plus a $125 credit for the inconvenience which had nothing to do with them. On my flight down with United we had to turn back because of maintenance issues, switched planes then were delayed 2 more hours because of maintenance issues. United only gave a credit of $75. No apology or anything else. I thankfully am back home, but have not heard a word from United about my return flight credit. Long story short United sucks!!!

Sounds likely given New York's current
situation would be foolish to allow large
groups of people flying in from there anytime
soon.

If the flights to DR are stopped for a while to insure the NY infected don't come back till next fall, I would be OK with the DR issuing that edict.

Most from the West Coast don't come to DR , so we are lucky not a lot of people from LA, WA & SF come here.

If the NY infection ramp the up numbers by escaping to in Florida it may be wise to cut those flights into DR also.

I don't think it will be opening anytime soon and, even if it did, I don't see any inclination among travelers to be getting on an airplane to go anywhere. Domestic travel is way down.

I agree and who is going to want to come so soon. A few?

I agree. Let's keep the DR safe.

Too many unknowns to let people from the states in here right now.

I give props to airlines, hotels and rental car companies.

I had to cancel travel to four cities in the states on multiple airlines for early-mid April.

All of then cancelled with no issues, no fees and no hassles.

The airlines allowed money paid to be credited through 2021.

I was actually being optimistic with October. I actually think it may be later than that. I hope not as I was planning September.

First the DR has to open its border and the US and the other countries. The airport’s and airlines have to adapt to the new situation to. I got a message from AA about new social distancing rules. Maybe it will be like after 9/11 with all sorts of new controls and precautions. I think it could be a long time before there are fights. But I bet they will start with special flights for people with family and business has to start again slowly. Tourism flights/travel could be a long time. But I am just guessing like everybody else.

Does anyone else find it odd that the USA prohibits flights to various countries over concern for contamination --

But they continue to allow flights from their own airports ?
Given that NYC seems to be the new epicenter of the virus .........

Noblesse oblige - I guess

Would that include ALL people flying through JFK which is an International airport in NYC??

I didn't realize passenger traffic
was still flowing. Thought it was
was only cargo.
Good question.

USA prohibited so many flights/countries when they felt at risk

Now... deep in the sewer........ they spread things around the country and the world
and restrict NONE of their own traffic............WEIRD

I want NO PART of an airplane or clinic right now
Too many sick people go there.

I don't find it odd at all that a country would prevent those from other countries entering while allowing their own citizens to leave. It is up to each country to decide whom they allow to enter.

Maybe another topic more important to DR is when will businesses fully reopen. Tourism certainly won't reopen if hotels are closed, bars not serving, rent a car businesses shuttered, beaches closed and restaurants dark.

The horse must go ahead of the cart. Tourists don't want to come to the Caribbean if it is in a quarantined wasteland.
