As for opening, Medina wants another 25 days of emergency power, if he will get any days will be subject to votes by the DR congress

You may be right, I don't recall any arriving flights from Canada to PUJ last month

PN or Immigration isn't important - a person of authority

"PN or Immigration isn't important - a person of authority"

Actually it is, and I must contest the seeming triviality.....

In a time of uncertainty, people need facts. They need facts, and they need them quickly. Especially today's generation.

Stating that the plane was met by police suggests that the Policia Nacional has taken charge of RD airport security. This may not mean much to the causal reader/observer, but with those possessing experience within global hotspots, this is very troubling indeed because it signals that their is instability within. More so with a nation that is about to have a presidential election, and who's recent primaries were a minor disaster. Not to mention a crazy thieving ex-president who will not go away.

To scale it back a bit, let us use the analogy I provided (every member's favourite) of the "expulsion on day 31 of a tourist card/not admitted for prior overstay".
What a farce this was. It caused pockets of insecurity (hysteria) amongst some members of the community, and proved to be 100% untrue.

You see, words do matter, and in times of uncertainty wordings need to be in line with facts.......unless of course it is just opinion, or one taking the piss.

Friends of PJT who are still working near PUJ airport have said there is talk of welcoming visitors sometime during June. Suppose it will coincide with the end of the state of emergency, if it extended into June.

Regards,

PJT.

I guess that leaked plan is undergoing major revision if that is anywhere near close to true.

If Medina's powers are extended on Wednesday after the vote by the Deputies.............it looks like the timetable/steps for opening posted by caribmike may be closer to reality than most would like.

Unfortunately for some, limited international travel is not likely to be opened until at least August..........and perhaps longer.

This talk could just be an attempt to keep up morale and confidence in the tourism industry.

Lifting restrictions, resumption of flights is all very well, but will enough people still want to travel? Will flights be affordable when passenger numbers are restricted? Will the AI model still be economically viable if resorts can only operate using distancing measures which would mean a huge reduction in guest numbers?

My flight for mid-June was canceled Monday.

I will be having lunch this afternoon with my friend within the Bahia Principe organization. I will ask her if she has any up to date information.

Your prior information of November 1st for most of the Bahia comports with my prior posting regarding another hotel chain in the DR indicating the same anticipated opening of November 1st for a limited number of their hotels.

Given the logistics.........that is a reasonable anticipated open date.

Time will tell.............lots of variables.......you can open...........but will they come (fear), can they come (financial.....(both personal and corporate....think tour operators and airlines).

Who will want to eat from a buffet again?

Me and my giant family (just 3 of us) would come as soon as we could for a few days. Hope that helps them decide. ;)

But with the information she provided there were some properties looking at a 1 and 15 June opening.
She will be held 100% accountable for this misinformation. ;)

I still, in my opinion, see them operating dry runs hosting Dominican families upon openings.

Exactly.

Soft openings for local demand and to fine tune operations for the anticipated international openings to come later.

I thought we established earlier in the thread that citizens, legal residents and spouses of a Dominican could travel into the DR. I think it is important for this forum to find out if that is not the case.
I have friends that are married that tried to return from Canada about the beginning of April after the quarantine started and the borders were shut down. They are both legal residents and permanent. they have been there now 19 years. There were three people on the airplane flying down and it was established before they left Canada that they could re-enter the Dominican When they arrived in Punta Cana, only the one Citizen was allowed off the plane. My friends had to return to Canada

AA is saying my 4th of june flight out of the DR is still a go....... well we will see.
Why would they stop a flight out of the DR? Unlikely to happen unless there are too few people on it.
This thread is really about allowing people into the DR.

I know, the title of the thread could more accurately read "When will the DR be accepting tourists again?"

Our flight on June 5th is still a go into POP. It has changed a couple of times since I booked it. Originally we were scheduled to fly into POP on the 4th, but have to overnight in Miami now. We shall see as the date approaches and the outcome of today's request being granted by the Government.
