So I used my flight credits to fly from Boston, US into the DR on July 1. One flight Is in to Punta Cana and the other is Santo Domingo. I’ll post if it changes.

It also has to do with keeping the country in Phase 2 has most Dominican workers back to work.

Let us know if your hotel is open as well.

Here is a cut n paste from a Facebook post I just read. With high case numbers this is a very real scenario even if you fly here and check into an AI or any other resort:

Before you book your (probably non-existent) flight to visit the Dominican Republic in July or perhaps August; I just want to express my feelings as an ex-pat who has lived here for 16 years or so:

The country is currently in lock down. Cases of Covid 19 continue to rise and the health ministry has reinforced the need for the public to maintain a safe 2 meter distance and properly (this time) try to stick to the lock down rules. There is a curfew. You are not allowed out after 8.00pm and the repercussions can be severe. Beaches are shut, likewise bars and restaurants. Face masks are mandatory in public. There will be little change to these rules until at least the end of June / beginning of July.

Airports are scheduled to reopen at the beginning of July. At that time AT BEST the government MIGHT have stopped the constant and alarming spread of the virus. IT WILL NOT MAGICALLY DISAPPEAR ON JULY 1ST.

Recently, a British couple traveled to New Zealand to visit relatives. They changed flights twice on their way down. Apparently when they left the UK they did not have the virus. New Zealand did not have the virus. Regardless of that they had to isolate for 14 days. After several days of forced quarantine they were allowed out on compassionate grounds to visit a very sick relative that lived hundreds of miles from where they were staying. A few days after their trip across New Zealand they were found to have the virus. The army has been called in to try to fix the mess. They are now isolated again. The reason why I mention this is so that people who want to come down on holiday early in July can properly weigh up what could possibly happen to them so here’s a scenario: 7 days into your holiday without any isolation on arrival (perhaps wearing a mask on your sunbed, not allowed to go on excursions, not allowed to visit bars and restaurants and perhaps even not allowed on the beach) either you or someone else on the resort tests positive. Boom! You’re buggered. Isolated in your room, not allowed out at all, food brought to your room and left outside for you and suddenly your flight back home has gone without you. Then the hotel shuts down, all the other bookings go out of the window and nobody wants you – you get transferred to a military camp until either you are given the all clear or you die there. Assuming you’re given the all clear you are now going to have to find an airline that will take you and you will have to pay for your own way home. You will also have to pay for somewhere to stay in the meanwhile (and oddly nobody is going to want you in their hotel or apartment building). Once home (if you can even get there) you will be forced into a further 14 days quarantine. Please think about it because WE miss the beach, the bars and the restaurants too. An act of stupidity or selfishness and the people who live here will have to endure more weeks of lock down and more weeks of suffering.

Happy holidays!

I’m a 9 year legal resident. I have a home there. From what I have seen on the news, it looks like some of the resorts or hotels will be opening for July 1 arrivals. But I do have a home there. I just figured it would not hurt to take a chance to get back

You should tell the people from the USA, they have increasing numbers of infections, the brits are not coming there till november and we will see how much infections the Americans take to the DR before then. Remember there is a high number of infections that show no symptoms, if the Dominican Republic is wise it should hold back on the Americans coming till they have infections well under control.

If he borders are going to open July 1 you'd think there would have been an announcement by now. Airlines some need notice
Checked Westjet and Air Canada websites. The flights for the first week of July are cancelled. Now scheduled to start the first week of August. The airlines appear to be going on a wing and a prayer. Pardon the pun. It may be something simple like not enough bookings to justify bringing back air crew for the July flights. I was hoping to get down in July. If the flights get delayed until September, I’ll wait till November to return.

I want to go in the other direction. I need a break from here so I need the Cdn airlines flying here again. Way too hard arranging connecting flights out of the US when you don't know what US airline is flying when and to where guaranteed.

As I have noticed someone posting here several times - its a forum of opinions. If we only could post known facts then there would not be much content. It was helpful for the people looking for ferry flights out and to clarify who could fly in. Maybe not info you need but a lot of others did.

Correct in that yes, this particular thread line has been based upon opinions, but remember, the OP asked for credible information not opinions.

Other locations within the web forum have been most helpful, such as the Daily Headline News, which is steeped in factual information to assist all members of the community. It seems many seem to pass this information by, which of course, is their prerogative.

With that said, I have never been one to ever call for a thread line to be closed, as I believe that is the function of and the sole discretion of the moderators of the particular web forum.

I am happy those that chose to "ferry out" were able to do so, and that they remain safe wherever they chose to ferry towards.

You don't combat a pandemic influenza by date stamping.
The correct answer to the original question - thank for reminding - would be: as soon as the number of new cases goes down to X. There would be a supporting professional study attached to it, explaining how many is X and how they arrived at the number.
However, you can forget any professionalism in the election year in most countries to the East of China.

The OP did not ask how to combat a pandemic. He asked for credible information on when the RD may open for international flights.
Now your "correct answer" which you provided to us above, happens to be your particular version of the solution. Thank goodness, many others believe in a different "correct answer", and strides are being made to achieve normalcy differently.
Furthermore, we also know that North Korea does not hold legitimate democratic elections, but are there elections this year in South Korea and Japan? You know, those countries to the east of China
Probably best for a response within the broader worldwide Covid-19 thread line.

Postings as such remind me of persons who like to play checkers or chess alone.

Moderators could have closed thread as the specific issue asked by the OP can not be answered before the government officially opens but it became broader about international travel for instance ferry flights for people needing to leave maybe because of business or could be personal issues. And we discussed who could fly in and turns out to be only citizens. You can file a complaint maybe to the moderator or report posts you find inappropriate.

Oh no Mr. John, it is not that serious to me. I am not one with a flair for dramatics. The only post I ever flagged/reported myself, was one where the poster inadvertently posted his personal information on the page. It was done with his safety in mind.
You can continue to speculate or book your flights as you wish. No troubles from me.
