I am a 38 year old American Bachelor. I heard the girls in the Dominican Republic were the most beautiful in the world. How easy is it to date them? How easy is it to date them if you don't know alot of spanish? Thanks , Braeden M. Rdfearn

Agree on the opinion about most beautiful.
Dating? "Professionals" I guess you can "date" even if you have
greenish skin, antennae on your head and only speaks marsian.
Like anywhere else in the world.

Many "non-professionals" would jump for white skin and an
opportunity to climb the social ladder as well.

However, don't count on any meaningful and interesting
relationship if you don't speak fluent spanish, and are
prepared to rethink quite many cultural items!

If she still likes you after two years of extreme poverty,
you probably "got a hit". If not,...

I've been lucky, after two years we have now decided to marry as
soon we can scrape together the legal fees. (Which, in our
current situation, well might take another two years!)

Think well about it!

Bring a football helmet arm & nee pads plus a baseball bat to beat them off with. Make your choices slowly do not get to involved too soon as you may not find it easy as in the states to get rid of them. They will take care of the language problem. And first off show you whare the closest Money changer is.

Eleven: Altagracia says a person must be a citizen of the DR in order to open a bank account. Since she's a citizen and I'm not, please wire all funds directly to the account she just opened with the money I gave her. She never had an account before. Twelve: She has a sick mother who needs money for medicine. Thirteen: She has a sick father who needs money for medicine. Fourteen: She has a sick baby and she needs money for medicine for the baby. Fifteen: All of these people will be miraculously healed from the medicine you deposit in Altagracia's bank account. Sixteen: Altagracia needs money to go to school to learn English, German, Italian, French or whatever language your currency is printed in. Seventeen: Altagracia needs money for ropas for her business. Eighteen: Altagracia works late into the night so she needs money for ropas por la playa where she also works. Nineteen: Altagracia needs money to see the doctor as she is sick from working so much and she needs medicine. Twenty: Altagracia and her uncle Benito have become much closer as a result of all of this medicine. They are living in a little casacita because with so much family living in the family casa, there just wasn't enough room. Sorry if the foregoing offends anybody but virtually every Dominican on the island that knows how to contact me has called me asking for money. I'm so sick of it I don't even take calls from the island anymore unless that call is pre-arranged.

When you think about all the Dominican women who have had their boyfriends, husbands, not only in the DR but abroad lie to them constantly, then spend the money on drinking, or other women I am not surprised. I am sure through experience, they have had to make these claims just to get their men to give them some money. Since the majority of women do not work and are very reliant on men for income, even after making all these claims I am sure that some men, just ignore them, and only give them very little. Experience has taught these women well.

Unlike yourself, I have never fallen into that trap. I simply dont give out my phone number to any Dominican women, this way then cannot call me expecting me to feel sorry for them. Nor do I give them my proper address. They find out soon enough that when letters come back Return to sender their efforts are useless

I had one tell me they would love to stay in the Hotel in Santo Domingo with me of course. In the next breath she said she needed
money for an operation because she had broken her arm. I didnt send her anything, but I felt sorry. Shes a human being and obviously in need. I am married to a Dominican woman I met in the
US. I have all the benefits and she supports herself quite nicely.

Good Luck. Have fun and dont get too involved.

Fred: Not only are you naive, you are a sexist. I used the word "Dominican" and not "Dominicana". Duuuuhhhhh! Figure it out.

>>Since the majority of women do not work<<

I'd like to see if statistics back that statement up. Maybe it's just a Santo Domingo thing, but a huge percentage of the women I met in SD over four years of living there worked outside the home, and no, I'm not speaking about "the world's oldest profession," but rather secretaries, sales clerks, waitresses, accountants, doctors, nurses, seamtresses, lawyers, bankers, marketing professionals...

Is this topic on beef or human beings ? You know, with pride, feelings, selfrespect, needs. Is it too much, to ask that when talking about the people of the DR, especially the ladies, we treat them with respect.
Gracias.

Relax bobs,
Yes, there has been some over exaggeration as to the money grubbing but not by much. My wife Yris has never asked me for money, in fact she usually tells me that she doesn't need any money or new cloths....etc. She says her clothing is still good and if she knew what i paid for her christmas presents she would have a heart attack. She had a good laugh reading about Altagracia, because it's very close to the truth for many Dominicanas. If you think Dominicana's are hustlers, and many are, you need to get global because meal tickets are hard to come by in many parts of the world. Philipinas and Mexicans are professional hustlers in comparison. No offense against the many fine people of all races that don't fit into this category.

Re: Domincanas & Work

Yo Keith: Where are your statistics? I just got home from dinner with my son and what do I get when I look at my e-mails? To quote, in pertinent part as follows:

"I've opened a busines with a friend of mine and now

I need overhead money for merchandise and products to

put on the shelves. It is necessary that you respond

to me right away"

Why would somebody open up a commercial endeavor without any product to put on the shelves? Why is it necessary that I respond to that individual right away when it is my money that they want? What, if anything is true about this communication? I stand by my statement. Any Dominican that knows how to reach me has asked me for money. I'm sick of it. I don't have a scanner here at home but if you do not believe what was on my e-mail when I got home tonight, I'll be pleased to fax that to your attention wherever in the world you are. You may e-mail me privately because I do not care how much any international faxes cost me so as to make my point. By the way, you can give me Fred's fax number too.

Re: Domincanas & Work

Why don't you just forward the email you reference to Keith?

Much of what you say about certain people is true (Asking for money), it is called "Learned behavior". If you just wish to pick on the prostitutes (Which to my naive mind is what you have been doing), many of them are doing what comes natural, trying to survive or get ahead. I have met literally dozens of "ladies" in the DR, if you wish to give them your phone number and accept collect calls, oh well. Many of these girsl do in fact support families with what they can "beg borrow or steal" I'm not condoning, just observing.

I have a very good friend in the DR who becomes offended when i offer her anything out of the ordinary, and others who will take whatever they can get. It's not fair to paint such a broad stroke as you have, condemming ALL Dominican women as beggars and theives

Regards,

tom

Bobs, why are you responding to me this way? I believe I was trying to make that very point, albeit in a different fashion.

Re: Domincanas & Work

Tom: Your articulated inference that I would give my phone number to some whore is way out of line. Further sir, kindly point out where I indicated that any single call I ever received from the DR was a collect call. The spectrum I referred to goes from a male degreed school teacher to an ordinary female. A simple and cursory glance at my earlier posts on this thread evidences that I used the word "Dominicans" and not "Dominicanas". Perhaps "what comes natural, trying to survive or get ahead" forgives the scary fact that 2.8 percent of the population there is HIV positive. I don't think so. Finally sir, I am not a condemnor of all Dominicanas as beggars and thieves. Parachutes only work when open. So do minds.

Re: Domincanas & Work

Yo, Bob, I never claimed to have statistics at hand. In fact, what I was trying to say was that I wished there were reliable statistics (I've worked long enough in Latin America to know that "reliable" is not the word to use for most stats provided in the DR) about how much of the adult Dominican female population have formal employment outside the home, as I suspect, based on my own years of observation in Santo Domingo (which admitedly is not the same as Puerto Plata or Punta Cana or Boca Chica, and I implied as much) such statistics would surprise Fred. I suspect, but cannot prove, that there is a huge portion of the Dominican female population working in legit jobs outside the home, yet many people seem to think that (it sounds like this includes you) most either stay at home, work as prostitutes or bar flies or are full-time golddiggers. I'm just saying that my own experience living there, in one part of the country and admittedly spending little to no time in the tourist areas, suggests that the stereotype is quite wrong.

Not that I really care, but how on earth would I e-mail you when you don't provide an e-mail address?
Regards,
Keith

Chris;

This statement by you prejudices any further discussion re: women in the Dominican Republic. Your bias shows clearly

Where did you get the 2.8% statistic, I would find that statement suspect as there is no foundation offered for it.?
