Re: Domincanas & Work
Yo, Bob, I never claimed to have statistics at hand. In fact, what I was trying to say was that I wished there were reliable statistics (I've worked long enough in Latin America to know that "reliable" is not the word to use for most stats provided in the DR) about how much of the adult Dominican female population have formal employment outside the home, as I suspect, based on my own years of observation in Santo Domingo (which admitedly is not the same as Puerto Plata or Punta Cana or Boca Chica, and I implied as much) such statistics would surprise Fred. I suspect, but cannot prove, that there is a huge portion of the Dominican female population working in legit jobs outside the home, yet many people seem to think that (it sounds like this includes you) most either stay at home, work as prostitutes or bar flies or are full-time golddiggers. I'm just saying that my own experience living there, in one part of the country and admittedly spending little to no time in the tourist areas, suggests that the stereotype is quite wrong.
Not that I really care, but how on earth would I e-mail you when you don't provide an e-mail address?
Regards,
Keith
