Britishgirl,

Off topic, but, I'm curious. Do you write the way you do in an intentionally styllized effort to effect your manner of speaking, or did you learn to write that way. If the latter, where do they teach it? I'm not criticising either way, just wondering because it's so alien to me.

Do you live in Sosua?

I'd like to hear you talk like that around people who really talk that way. Sounds like American street slang, and "you jackin it from my peeps." It's one thing to type that way if that is really your natural way of talking, and another to emulate it to appear cool. People who were raised talking like this might be offended.
It would be like me trying to talk in a British accent, which would be mocking. Linguistics can be touchy, because they represent culture and heritage. If your family and culture talks like that, forgive me for assuming. If not, I think you've got my point.
Always keepin it real,
Paradise

Santiago all the way

I have been to few places in DR and so far I like Santiago. It has all one would want out of a town. I like tranquility and solitude, but with world commodities nearby.

Take a drive into Jamao del Norte which is on the road to Moca from Sabeneta de Yasica. It is so close to it all yet so far away. In the town of Jamao there is the Jamao River. Drive in and enjoy the little swimming hole they have and enjoy some fresh fish or chicken that they have there. Not too many tourists there so make sure you bring your Spanish dictionary. If you really want to see some beautiful countryside cross the Jamao River and drive into the country. You will go into a time machine where everyone is friendly and people do not drive cars but ride on horses and donkeys. This is where my family is from!

I must agree that is a beautiful area I also love it up in Jamao.

Luperon!!!

Luperon is my favourite place!!!
of course I may be a bit biased...and Luperon will deffinatly not be what everyone is looking for in a holiday....but I cannot wait untill the day I live there.

One of the best things about Luperon is the people. I have never met such amazing people in my whole life. (not just Dominicans as a whole...) but specifially the people of Luperon (maybe they have the same mentality of people in other smaller towns...but not from what I have seen.) Luperon is a GRRRRREAT place.

Now it is true I have not been all over Dominican, but I have been to Imbert, POP, Sosua, Caberete, Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Russia...and there are a few other small towns I have visited, but for the life of me I can't remember their names right now!!

There are of course good points and things I love about each of these places I ahve been....but to me LUPERON IS THE BEST!!! ;) :D

I could write a whole long page about all the things I love about Luperon..not sure you all want to read it though...so I will just stick to my opinion of ...(did I mention this yet???) I LOVE LUPERON!!!

Barahona, Pedernales, Independencia...

Not the cities, but the provinces... I absolutely LOVE to drive to the south-west to soak in the freezing waters of the rivers or take a leap of faith and get in the sea!!... San Rafael, Los Patos, Enriquillo, El Polo, Lago Enriquillo, Pedernales, Bah?a de Las Aguilas, Cabo Rojo, Isla Beata... Oh, how I miss that area!

There is absolutely everything nature has to offer in that part of the country... Amazing beaches, rivers, waterfalls, lakes, deserts, mountains... What else can you ask for!!??

Yan-Yan,

I've been wanting to visit the Southwest DR for about 2 years now, and it's never worked out. Your post has convinced me that I've just gotta get there! Can you recommend any reasonably priced accomodations in the area?

I'm waiting to say my favorite place (so far) until I get permission from admin. to attach some pics.

Imbert is nice I must say and so is Luperon. Playa Grande is one of my favorite places to eat lunch with my GF while under the trees. Samana, although it is overrun with tourists is beautiful. Constanza is a beuatiful place to go as well. Just when you thought that heater in your car would never be used in the Dominican Republic you now enter the mountains near Constanza you turn that heat on. Open the windows and smell that fresh coffee!!!!!
