Rector of UASD tells it as it is

Rector Miguel Rosado of the state university (UASD) denounced in an interview in Hoy newspaper that Federacion de Estudiantes Dominicanos (FED), William Martinez and Ambiorix, president of MIEL (Movimiento Independiente Estudiantil de Liberacion) were delivering so-called summer courses charging students RD$100 for two hours and making millions. They were selling the credit at RD$50 while boycotting the UASD summer course, that would have cost students RD$40. Rosado said the student leaders were issuing diplomas in the name of the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo, MIEL and the Circulo de Encuentros Educativos del Caribe. Rosado said he has sent the case to the legal department of the university for legal prosecution. He said that similar interests boycotted the establishment of a Codetel telecommunications center at the UASD. He explained that shortly after the Frente de Liberación Amin Abel installed a telecommunications center with another company, providing the same services. Rosado also denounced what he called a fraud for more than RD$2 million in the project being carried out with the UASD-IDB-Fundapec. Rosado says he has been under much attack because he has openly revealed the corruption that prevails in the state university. "I have been one of the university’s harshest critics," he told Hoy newspaper. "But who pays the bills of the UASD. The Dominican people. Then we have to tell the taxpayers as it is, so that it be the people that pressure from outside so that the changes can be carried out internally," he points out. "What has happened is that the UASD is seen as a war booty of the 1965 Revolution, and it can’t be that way. The UASD cannot be seen as a university for the poor because that is an absurd concept. What has done most damage to the university is the scholastic stagnation of the students." Now Rosado says, "The old model is outdated, we have to change it, from the ashes we have to built a university that can truly serve the Dominican people."
