El Siglo newspaper highlights that the government assigned the 16-kilometer new four lane highway along Las Americas Highway to Architect Manuel Jimenez of Arquinsa 21 without a tender and without there have been a fixed budget for the construction. The construction of the highway, that seeks to reduce traffic accidents along the main thoroughfare to the East from Santo Domingo, has already been begun. Jiménez said that his company will be presenting the budget for the construction today. Hernani Salazar, of the Oficina Supervisora de Obras Publicas, that is reportedly in charge of the construction, did not have a cost of the highway when asked by journalists. The PRD government is pursuing a case of corruption against the predecessor of Hernani Salazar, Felix Bautista for suspected irregularities in the allotment of the San Juan-Vallejuelo highway.
