Hoy newspaper reports that current expenditures are eating up a bigger chunk of state revenues than before. A Central Bank report says that from January-September of this year current expenditures increased to be 74% of total government expenditures, up from 67.7% during the same period last year. That is current expenditures are up to RD$25,728 million from RD$21,338 million for the same period last year. According to the Central Bank, the cost of personal services or people employed in government increased 28.4% during the period. The trend is expected to continue upward as the government secures more resources through the new taxes to create more jobs in the state bureaucracy.
