Senators want to reform the Constitution

There was not majority to extend their congressional period to two more years, but the Senate gave priority to a bill that would call for a General Assembly to reform the Constitution. On the 30-point reform agenda are items such as extending the terms of the President, Vice President, legislators, mayors and aldermen to five years as of the 2002 and 2004 elections. Also proposed is that a candidate for President may be elected with 45% of the vote, down from the present 50%+1 vote. They also propose that if one candidate is 10 points over the other, this would be enough to win the Presidency. The bill took the nation by surprise, as other matters pending in Congress are considered to have more priority than the constitutional discussions.
