The government-intervened Listin Diario reports today that the PRSC will invest over RD$150 million in the Eduardo Estrella campaign. This means RD$68 million more than what the JCE has allotted it from taxpayer money for campaign spending. Upon releasing the information to the press, the finance director of the PRSC, Jose Ramon Gonzalez Perez, said that the party invested RD$23 million in the first month of the year. Gonzalez says the party expects to gather an additional RD$70 million to finance the campaign. According to him, the party invested RD$44 million last year in the Estrella campaign, which was almost RD$1 million more than it received from the JCE.
According to a study conducted by the Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE), political parties (2.7% share) and government propaganda (3.7%) were among the top advertisers in the Dominican Republic. The combined 6.4% share, which is slightly more than the 6.2% spent by commercial banks, is only surpassed by the 6.7% spent by telecommunications advertisers last year.
