Luxury vehicles seized

The Customs Department seized 1,700 luxury vehicles, Lexus, Mercedes Benz and Jaguar brands, that were brought into the country illegally through a “mafia” composed of typists, supervisors and correctors working in that department, as reported in Diario Libre. The evasion took place when 5 or 6 vehicles that did not pay their import taxes would be included in a registration voucher for just one vehicle that did pay. This type of operation took place during the past government administration and also in the first months of the current administration, said Customs director Miguel Cocco.
