More police on the streets

The Police Department will assign 2,000 additional agents to patrol streets and another 1,000 to its Criminal Investigations Department, as reported in El Caribe. The measure is part of the “Democratic Security Plan” presented today at 11:30 am to President Leonel Fernandez, by Interior and Police Minister Franklin Almeyda, Attorney General Francisco Dominguez Brito, and Police Chief Manuel de Jesus Perez Sanchez. With a total of 32 thousand agents, the department only has 8,000 patrolling and 4,000 looking after its stations. The plan expects to increase these numbers gradually to 16,000 patrolling agents.
