The Dominican government has proposed that the 16 member countries of Cariforum unite in one block to exert increased influence on international organizations. Diario Libre reports that President Fernandez’s proposal was transmitted by Vice President Rafael Alburquerque. Cariforum ministers will take part in a joint meeting with the European Commission today. During the opening session, the principal representative of Cariforum agreed that there is lack of unity and continuity in planning and economic resources in the regional organization. Edwin Carrington, Secretary General of the Caribbean ACP States for the forum complained that there are no concrete projects for the profitability these countries should make out of European economic aid. The integration proposal was also mentioned by Foreign Relations Minister Carlos Morales Troncoso.
