Haiti wants joint solutions

The government of Haiti believes that joint solutions must be sought with the DR for problems affecting both nations and it has included several development projects in the common agenda proposed to the international community. The statements were made by Haitian Foreign Relations Minister, Herald Abraham, in response to President Leonel Fernandez’s statement on Wednesday that the DR cannot provide Haiti’s solutions because the realities of both countries are very different.

When asked about Fernandez’s statements, Abraham sustained that the international community is supporting joint projects for both countries and that they must be completed in the joint manner that they were conceived. He spoke during the 14th Cariforum Ministerial Meeting that began yesterday at Santo Domingo Hotel in Santo Domingo with the participation of Caribbean Foreign Relations Ministers and European Union representatives. President Fernandez’s remarks had come as a reaction to a report in Foreign Policy magazine that classified the DR, together with Haiti as two of the 20 nations at highest risk of becoming failed states.
