World Bank (WB) representatives visited Congress yesterday to analyze US$50million in loans for social assistance, as reported in El Caribe. The loans are due to be approved by the WB in the beginning of next year. Cristina Malmberg, WB Director for the Caribbean said the bank would issue US$370 million in loans for the social and energy sectors over the next four years. She urged the Chamber of Deputies to ratify the US$12.5 million loan for the financial sector and warned that the deadline for its approval is 12 August, otherwise it will be cancelled. This loan was approved by the WB Board of Directors 18 months ago.
