Clothing manufacturer HanesBrands announced new investments to expand operations in the country after meeting with President Danilo Medina at the Presidential Palace yesterday, Thursday 13 June. Vice president of operations Ricardo Perez made the announcement at a press conference after the meeting. Minister of Industry and Commerce Jose del Castillo and the director of the National Council of Export Free Zones Luisa Fernandez were also present. The company has been operating in the Dominican Republic since 1973. Perez said that in the past years the company has averaged around 7,000 direct formal jobs in the east, capital and north of the country, with a payroll of around RD$1.5 billion. He said last year the company invested RD$340 million and has projects for RD$500 million for this year. Perez said that new machinery and equipment would be installed at the Dos Rios plant in Bonao, the cargo areas in several plants would be expanded and improvements would be made to the distribution centers as well as at the biomass plant.
