The Ministry of the Environment has suspended all activity to extract aggregates from the river in Hato Nuevo in Santo Domingo Province. The order was issued by the deputy minister of soil and rivers, Jose Alarcon Mella to the companies Agregados JP, Industrial Marketing, Constructora Xamix, Gracera La Pared and Roika Portorreal.
The deputy minister said that his agency has begun to re-evaluate the environmental impact of these mining activities given the government’s priority to protect the country’s natural resources.
