
Ministry of Defense has stepped up surveillance and patrols at the border as violent protests over fuel shortages continue in Haiti. The Dominican Army sent more members of the Specialized Fuel Control Corps (CECCOM) to discourage fuel smuggling, said Defense Ministry spokesman Colonel Danieslivar Veloz. Private schools closed in Port-au-Prince due to the insecurity in the streets. The fuel shortage has been affecting the country since August.
The Haitian government announced the arrival of new fuel shipments to that country, but also warned of hikes in diesel prices.
