
The Medina administration announced a record RD$997 billion budget for 2020. Budget director Luis Reyes, Economy Minister Juan Ariel Jiménez and Hacienda Minister Donald Guerrero made the announcement.
The 2020 National Budget is 8.1% more than the RD$921.8 billion running budget for 2019. The Council of Ministers met on Thursday, 26 September 2019 to approve the budget.
Hacienda Minister Donald Guerrero says the priority is to advance or finish important infrastructure works. He mentioned the Monte Grande Dam project, the remodeling of public hospitals, the second cable car line over the Ozama River, the aqueducts of Jarabacoa and Cotuí, the Domingo Savio Water and Sewage Modernization project in the National District and the Santo Domingo North Beltway, among other works.
Budget director Reyes said that 47% of expenditures would go for social spending. The Central Electoral Board (JCE) gets RD$8.3 billion for the 2020 general elections.
