Free duplicates of IDs to be issued on Thursday and Friday

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced it will be issuing identification and voting cards (cédulas) free of charge on Thursday, 3 October and Friday, 4 October. The working hours are 8 to 4pm, but those interested should go with ample time before closing.

The JCE says the grace period is offered to motivate citizens to vote in the simultaneous primaries of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) that will take place on Sunday, 6 October 2019. The The leading parties will choose their candidates for the presidential, congressional and municipal elections of 2020.

In the 6 October primaries, all citizens are authorized to vote for the PLD candidates of their chose. Those that are registered members of the PRM are the only ones authorized to vote in the PRM primaries that will take place on the same day. Citizens can only vote in one or the other of the primaries, not in both. The primaries will test a new automated voting system.
