Former President Leonel Fernandez described as a kind of inquisition what the Medina administration leadership is exercising against those who do not share their points of view. Fernández is the presidential candidate for the People’s Force (FP), a last-minute political party that was formed when he split from the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) shortly after the PLD primary in October.
“There is intolerance and in the face of that intolerance, there is a kind of inquisition, they persecute anyone who does not share their ideas,” said Fernandez.
“What I observe throughout the country is that the people expect the palace leadership to leave power. That’s something we’re feeling everywhere,” Fernandez said. He forecast that the opposition coalition made up of the FP, the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) and other allied parties, will be victorious in the Sunday municipal elections.
“I can predict that the PLD, due to the style repudiated by the people, will have fewer mayors than it has today and will have fewer city councilors than it has today,” he concluded.
