Who is in the Luis Abinader cabinet? The Administrative Minister of the Presidency and Defense Minister

On Wednesday, 15 July 2020, President-elect Luis Abinader tweeted two more would-be appointments in his government set to start on 16 August. They are Jose Ignacio Paliza as Administrative Minister of the Presidency, replacing Jose Ramón Peralta, and Major General Carlos Diaz Morfa as the Defense Minister, replacing Major General Ruben Dario Paulino Sem.

Puerto Plata senator José Ignacio Paliza is also currently the president of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).

He is a graduate of law from the Unibe University in Santo Domingo in 2003. He has a master’s degree in International Law from Georgetown University in Washington, DC (2005). He has post-graduate studies in Business and Public Policies from the Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania (2006) and in Public Finances from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (2007) in the USA.

When 28 years old, he was elected the youngest deputy in Congress, serving from 2010 to 2016 representing his home province of Puerto Plata. He was later voted senator for Puerto Plata in 2016.

As a member of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), he was chosen its youngest secretary. He left the party with many other PRD dissidents to form the PRM. He was voted president of the PRM in March 2018.

Defense Minister: Major General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa
He is a former chief of the National Army (for seven months) and then head the Presidential Military Aide Corps under former President Hipólito Mejía (2000-2004). He has held the rank of Major General for 19 years and served in the Army for 45 years. At present, he is the security chief for former President Mejía.
