The Ministry of Tourism reports that 24 beaches in the Dominican Republic have been certified as Blue Flag beaches for 2020-2021. The Environmental Law Institute of the Dominican Republic (IDARD) is responsible for issuing the certificates.
The Blue Flag program (Bandera Azul) is an international ecolabel that promotes high quality and sustainability standards in beaches operation. To receive the certificate, the properties must comply with water quality, environmental management, safety, accessibility criteria set by the international program.
