Electricity Superintendent resigns

The electricity superintendent, Rafael Velazco Espaillat resigned his position effective 31 July 2022, amidst strong criticism for the salary increases approved for himself and the main members of the SIE of up to 23%.

Velazco has more than 20 years of experience in the electricity sector, is an economist and holds an MBA from the University of Quebec in Montreal, Canada. He was also in the regulation and tariffs department of the distributors Edesur and Edenorte, and had served as director of the commercial department of the Consorcio Energético Punta Cana Macao (CEPM), among others.
