Record numbers for foreign direct investments

The Export and Investment Center of the Dominican Republic (ProDominicana) reports that Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) reached US$1,870.9 million between January and June 2022. The 2022 half year stats for FDI are up 8% compared to the same period of 2021, and 20% compared to the first half of the pre-pandemic 2019.

Biviana Riveiro, executive director of ProDominicana, announced: “The growth experienced in foreign direct investment in the Dominican Republic is an indicator of investor confidence in our economy.” She attributed the expansion to the positive business climate and the country’s social, economic and political stability, combined with actions of openness and facilitation for investment.

Riveiro forecast that by year’s end, FDI could reach US$3.5 billion. “We are constantly working to attract more and better investments,” she stated in a press release. She says the growth experienced in foreign investment is consistent with the dynamization of the portfolio of services offered by ProDominicana.

ProDominicana reports that from January-June 2022, 179 assistance services were given to investors and potential investors for the installation, development and expansion of investment projects. Likewise, in the first half of the year, 13 new investment projects were established. ProDominicana participated in five international FDI attraction events.

The sectors that mobilized the greatest flow of FDI in the period from January to June 2022 were tourism, commerce and industry, mining and real estate. Most FDI came from the United States, Canada and Mexico.
