President Luis Abinader received on Sunday night, 25 September 2022, a commission of New York City officials headed by New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the Dominican congressman for the state of New York in the US House of Representatives, Adriano Espaillat.
Also here on the mission from New York were New York City Department of Transportation Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez, a Dominican national; 17th District Councilman and Chairman of the Land Use Committee Rafael Salamanca; and Queens Borough President Donovan Richards; District Representative Marjorie Velasquez, External Affairs Advisor Tiffany Raspberry, Reverend Erick Salgado and Pastor Gilford T. The commissioners visited to see damages caused by Hurricane Fiona in the eastern and northeasterns regions to be better able to determine the type of aid that is needed.
Congressman Espaillat praised the fast relief efforts in the Dominican Republic and said President Abinader had informed them that power service was restored in most of the municipalities. He said on Monday, 26 September, the mission would be in La Romana and Boca de Yuma, La Altagracia province.
