As part of activities of Dominican Week in the United States from 26 to 30 September 2022, Arajet chief executive Victor Pacheco announced that the new low cost airline has plans to fly to 17 cities in the United States once an open skies agreement is signed. Pacheco spoke at the activity organized at the New York Bar.
Pacheco said that the Dominican government is making positive progress on the Open Skies agreement. “The authorities in our country and the United States have favorably advanced the draft of the Open Skies Agreement. He said Arajet would be offering the lowest fares with the best quality in the market. He spoke of the new planes and warmth of 100% Dominican service during his talk for the New York City Bar Association.
Pacheco did not name the 17 cities but said these include major cities that traditionally have had flights to Santo Domingo, but also many destinations that have never had direct flights to the Dominican capital.
AmCham president Roberto Herrera, vice president William Malamud and Trade Facilitation Commission coordinator Alex Schad were present. They spoke of the direct impact the low-cost airline can have on the development of trade, tourism and cultural exchanges between the two countries.
The activity was part of others for Dominican Week in the United States from 26 to 30 September 2022. The event marked the 30th anniversary of the activity started by corporate lawyer, the late Luis Heredia Bonetti. This year there were events held in Washington DC and New York City.
Dominican Week enables a series of meetings with government institutions, international organizations, the diplomatic corps and Dominicans in the diaspora,” explained Herrera. He highlighted the 30th anniversary event sought to advance relations with the Biden administration, promote bilateral relations in general, while continuing to position the Dominican Republic as a platform for tourism, health, renewable energies, logistics and nearshoring ventures.
The organizers were William Malamud, executive vice president and Steven Puig, chairman of the board of the Bilateral Committee of the American Chamber of Commerce in the Dominican Republic.
