Ticket supervisor sent to custody in Julia Benoit case

State prosecutors submitted airport employee Carlos Junior Soriano Doroteo to three months preventive custody. He is suspect of ticketing with the name of passenger Julia Benoit two red suitcases that were later found to contain a drug shipment. Judge Francis Reyes issued the judgment. The jail sentence sends Soriano to the Anamuya jail in the municipality of Higuey. The surveillance video shows that after ticketing the suitcases, Soriano boarded a vehicle that picked him up at the outside of the terminal.

Rafael Guerrero of Corrupcion al Desnudo has been airing sections of the surveillance video with evidence for investigators to look into the real story behind the red suitcases that appeared ticketed in the name of Julia Benoit. Julia Benoit was traveling on a flight to Brussels with a black and blue carry on when the two red suitcases appeared in her name to be boarded on the same flight. She was headed to Brussels to be operated for thyroid cancer. She is a European Union citizen. Her son lives and works in Brussels.

The media reports that she was operated at the Dominican cancer institute for thyroid after preentive custody measures obliged her to remain in the country for the court case. Benoit has maintained her innocence at all times and the surveillance video clearly presents evidence that the prosecutors should be investigating others. Ticketing agent Benjamin Lizardo Raposo is also under preventive custody in the case. Lizardo has said that he only ticketed in Benoit’s name the black and blue carryon.
