President Luis Abinader ordered the retirement of 978 members of the National Police. The official reason for retirement is age or seniority in the service. Others were separated from the police force for voluntary retirement.
Through decrees 121-23 and 122-23, the Executive Branch ordered the officer be promoted to the next higher rank to receive a better retirement pension.
The group sent to retirement includes 113 colonels, 10 of whom are lawyers; 19 doctors; two psychologists, six dentists and four chaplain colonels.
Also, 65 lieutenant colonels were retired, seven doctors, three psychologists and one dentist. Also included are 65 majors, three of whom are doctors, two psychologists and three dentists.
The Executive Power ordered the retirement of 75 captains, one of them a doctor. Likewise, 237 first lieutenants, 340 second lieutenants, as well as a group composed of 30 sergeants major, five sergeants, seven corporals, three privates and five assimilated persons.
The retirements and promotions take place at a time when the government is engaged in promoting Police reform.
The Police reported the promotion of another 7,407 members to the next higher rank, ranging from private to colonel.
