Faride trusts she will keep the vote of capital city based on her track record in the Senate

The vice president of the Senate of the Dominican Republic, Faride Raful, remarked that she is prepared to compete against the son of former three-time President Leonel Fernandez, Omar Fernandez who at the deadline for the 2024 congressional elections announced his candidacy for his father’s Fuerza del Pueblo (FP) party. The FP has announced an alliance with the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) for specific municipal and congressional candidacies in the 19 May 2024 elections.

Faride Raful is a former Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) deputy elected National District senator in the 2020 elections. When asking to comment on the launching of deputy Omar Fernandez to displace her in the Senate she commented: “Whether the father comes or the son comes, it does not matter.”

The DN senator said that her fight is against what they represent, according to Raful, and against “what is linked to them: corruption, impunity and anti-rights.”

“Honesty and work are sown. “Let’s harvest!” she tweeted on X a day after Fernandez announced he will be the candidate of the “Alianza Rescate RD” and will appear in the boxes of Fuerza del Pueblo, the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) and the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD).

A recent Gallup poll showed Fernandez’s father, former President Leonel Fernandez, having 27% of the vote in the Dominican Republic.
