
Four Dominicans received Latin Grammys in different categories during the 24th Latin Grammy Award ceremony on Thursday, 16 November 2023 at the FIBES Conference and Exhibition Center in Seville, Spain. These were Juan Luis Guerra, Vicente García, Sergio Vargas and Romeo Santos.
The Latin Grammy Awards ceremony was held outside of the United States for the first time. The 2023 Latin Grammy Awards honored recordings released between 1 June 2022 and 31 May 2023. The ceremony is known as the Biggest Night in Latin Music and is a time to get up to date on what’s happening in the Latin music scene.
The Dominican Latin Grammy winners in 2023:
Best Tropical Song. “Si Tú Me Quieres” – a collaboration between Colombian Juan Fernando Best Fonseca & Juan Luis Guerra. The credit for the Sony Music Entertainment US Latin LLC production also goes to: Fonseca, Yadam González & Juanes, record producers; Sebastian De Peyrecave, Fonseca & Allan Leschhörn, recording engineers; Juan Mario Aracil & Trevor Muzzy, mixers; Esteban Piñeiro, mastering engineer. Best Merengue and/or Bachata Album. There was a tie between two Dominicans for this category. Romeo Santos won the award for his Formula, Vol 3 (2022 Sony Music Entertainment US Latin LLC) and Sergio Vargas won for his “A Mi Manera” (J&N Records LLC). Romeo Santos Formula, Vol 3. Best Folk Album. Vicente García accomplished the feat of a lifetime in winning the Latin Grammy in the category of Best Folk Album. García is equally as popular in Colombia as in the Dominican Republic. He was honored for his track “Camino al Sol” (2022 Sony Music Entertainment US Latin LLC).
Three other Dominican singers Pavel Núñez (Best Merengue/Bachata with Tropico, Vol 2), songwriter Techy Fatule (Best Tropical Song – Que me quedes tu) and Manny Cruz (Best Merengue/Bachata with Cuatro 26) received 2023 Latin Grammy nominations. 18-year old Dominican rap artist J Noa competed in the Best Rap/Hip Hop category with her song “Autodidacta.” They were all present for the ceremony, as reported in Diario Libre.
Dominican audiences will be able to celebrate one of the winners of the Latin Grammy, Colombian singer Karol G (Carolina Giraldo Navarro), who won the coveted Album of the Year category.
