The US Embassy sent out a tweet with the congratulations of the US government to the Abinader administration for the increase in the seizure of narcotics.
“Dominican authorities, primarily the National Drug Control Agency (DNCD), have seized more than 23 metric tons of illicit narcotics in the last three consecutive years,” the diplomatic headquarters expressed through its social network account X (formerly Twitter) @EmbasadaUSAenRD.
“The United States is proud to partner with the Dominican Republic to confront transnational criminal organizations and drug trafficking,” the message stated, as reported in Listin Diario.
On 13 November 2023, President Luis Abinader had presented a report entitled “A blow to drug trafficking,” highlighting how his administration had seized 26 tons more of drugs than in the 16 years of previous Dominican governments.
In breaking down the information, the head of state pointed out that between 2020 and 2023, 103,655.82 kilograms of controlled substances (103.63 tons) were seized, of which 87,005.24 kilograms correspond to national seizures and 16,650.54 to international seizures, with the collaboration of the Dominican Republic.
Meanwhile, from 2004 to 2020, 77,526.11 kilograms were seized.
President Abinader attributed the success to the greater interaction between the Armed Forces, the DNCD, and international organizations.
