Luis Ernesto Garcia Hernandez is the new police commissioner

Minister of the Presidency Joel Santos Echavarria announced that the appointment of a new executive commissioner marks the start of the second phase of the National Police reform process.

The Executive Commissioner for Police Reform is responsible for implementing the plans, strategies and policies for the transformation and professionalization of the National Police.

By Decree 52-24, President Luis Abinader appointed Colombian Luis Ernesto García Hernández the Executive Commissioner for Police Reform in the Joint Task Force in charge of police reform.

Garcia Hernandez replaces Jose Vila del Castillo who served for two years as police advisor.

García Hernandez was the manager of the process for the integral transformation of the Police of Colombia from 2021 to 2022. He was part of efforts to modernize the police force to international standards. He also served as director of planning for the Colombian police.
