Municipal election update

The Central Electoral Board uploaded on Wednesday, 21 February 2024 the preliminary results of the municipal elections held on Sunday, 18 February. In the election, the ruling Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and allies obtained more than 85% of the mayoralties in the 158 municipalities nationwide.

When the allies are subtracted, the PRM received 77.21% and won 122 mayoralties. With the allies, the ruling party obtained 135 of the town councils.

The Social Christian Reformist Party with the alliance reached seven mayoralties. The People’s Force won six town councils in the electoral process.

Social Justice, together with its allies, which included the ruling party, reached four mayoralties. For its part, the Liberal Reformist Party obtained a city council, as did País Posible, which, allied with Social Justice, also achieved a mayor’s office.

The Civic Renewal Party also won a town council, a result similar to that obtained by the Modern Revolutionary Party.

The JCE has confirmed that mayors, councilors and elected members will take office on Wednesday, 24 April 2024.
