The Ministry of the Environment has just announced what they are calling the “Green Line” which is, in r a hotline for reporting violations of environmental rules and regulations. The calls go to provincial authorities of the Ministry and are tied to the offices of Zero Bureaucracy and the Ethics Division of the central government.
Minister Miguel (Mickey) Ceara Hatton stressed that the launch of the app is an important step towards more transparency and citizen participation, and will allow citizens to report environmental problems, where they are happening and what type of problem. Photographs and videos can also be uploaded on the app. Linea Verde RD is the proper name for the new hotline.
What is yet to be seen if any actions are taken. For years, social media is full of claims of irregularities that the Ministry of Environment has yet to act on.
Recently Esta Noche con Mariasela held a panel to denounce the many violations happening, many involving actions of a deputy minister of Environment, with the government looking the other way. The Friday, 24 April 2024 program concluded with host Mariasela Alvarez urging the President to take action.
