UN diplomats visit Abinader and enjoy Dominican hospitality

Ten United Nations diplomats, most from the UN Security Council, visited the Dominican Republic for a relatively brief but very active stay, as reported in Listin Diario.

The ambassadors of Malta, Guyana, Bahrain, Benin, Greece, Indonesia, Kuwait, Libya, Slovenia and Tajikistan met with President Luis Abinader, Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez, Defense Minister General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, capital city mayor Carolina Mejia and had time to discuss issues related to global security, peace and regional stability. They also discussed the efforts of the Dominican Republic to comply with the state of law, economic growth, job creation and combat poverty.

The ambassadors also met Economy Minister Pavel Isa Contreras, Minister of Industry & Commerce Víctor (Ito) Bisonó, and with the director of ProDominicana, Biviana Riveiro, with whom they talked about the country’s industrial development, increase in exports and foreign investment as tools that have influenced the creation of new jobs.

The diplomatic mission included the current president of the Security Council, Ambassador Vanessa Frazier, of Malta; and Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana, who chairs the United Nations Haiti Sanctions Committee.

Also making up this group of ambassadors were the permanent representatives to the UN of Bahrain, Jamal Fares Alrowaiei; from Benin, Marc Hermanne Gninadoou Araba; from Greece, Evangelos Sekeris; Indonesia, Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir; from Kuwait, Tareq M. A. M. Albanai; from Libya, Taher M. T. El-Sonni; from Slovenia, Bo tjan Malovrh; and Tajikistan, Jonibek Ismoil Hikmat.

The agenda also included a tour of the Colonial City and a visit to Punta Cana tourist destination.

The visit followed the most recent visit of Foreign Relations Minister Roberto Alvarez to speak begfore the UN Security Council.

The mission was coordinated by Jose Blanco, Dominican ambassador to the UN.

At the end of the meetings an official statement was issued with the ambassadors in support to the efforts of the Dominican government to meet the goals set by the 2030 Agenda of Sustainable Development.
