Mirador del Este and Juan Pablo Duarte venues to be renovated for 2026 Sports Games

The terms for the contracting of the renovations of the sports venues for the Central American and Caribbean Games to be held 24 July to 8 August 2026 in Greater Santo Domingo call for two major engineering firms to win it all.

The works to be carried out are estimated to cost RD$2.95 billion and the winners of the contracts have to come forth with 30% of the total worth to be one of the two designated engineering firm winners.

The contracting falls under the Ministry of Housing (Mivhed) and its Minister Carlos Bonilla.

The renovations have already begun with the Palacio de Deportes under a board that is supervising the works.

The government of Abinader had announced in March 2024 that RD$3.5 billion would be invested and only one new venue would be built for the summer games. The government will be building the sports villa for the teams in the Juan Bosch City on the eastern side of Santo Domingo, close to the Mirador del Este sports facilities, but about a half an hour from the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.

Most sports will take place at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, built in 1974 for the 12th Central American and Caribbean Games, and the Mirador del Este sports facilities that was built for the 2003 Pan Am Games.
