Greece wins qualifier; DR loses to Croatia 80-77

Greece with its dominating player Giannis Antetokounmpo won the slot for the Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024 during the qualifier held in Pireaus, Greece. Greece defeated Croatia 80-77, yet the media mentions Croatia’s Ivica Zubac, was the most impressive player of the tournament.

The Dominican national basketball team went down fighting when losing to Croatia, the team that had bested Slovenia with its NBA star Luka Doncinc. The DR team competed for one of four slots in the Olympic Qualifiers for the Men’s Olympic Basketball Tournament Paris 2024.

Jean Montero and Chris Duarte were the DR’s two best players in Greece. Interestingly, Jean Montero led in the fan vote for the tournament.

Greece with its 80-69 win over Croatia won the right to join France, USA, Canada, Australia, South Sudan, Japan, Serbia and Germany in the Paris Olympics. The other teams that won one of the three other available slots in the final Olympic Qualifiers were Brazil by defeating Latvia 94-69, Puerto Rico by defeating Lithuania 79-68, and Spain by defeating The Bahamas 86-78.
